From the beginning, we have felt that it was better to take a proactive, rather than reactive stance on the pet overpopulation problem. Spaying and neutering is the most cost effective and humane solution, with profound impacts on the lives of cats and dogs. Unfortunately, we have literally been loving our animals to death.
Currently, we are one of two animal welfare groups, as well as the County Animal Control that operates in our county. Animal Control is responsible for handling approximately 3000 animals per year with a euthanasia rate of 40% and a yearly operating budget of $565,000. The local Humane Society operates a shelter that adopts out approximately 400 animals per year on a $300,000 per year budget. Our group provided over 2000 surgeries and 120 adoptions in 2006 for approximately $65,000.
We are currently the only non-profit spay and neuter clinic in Montana. |
